The Ventriloquist

The ventriloquist has us mesmerized,
Capturing the attention of every eye,
We work and work at trying to improve,
Watching to see if his lips will move.
But, while we're captivated,
We're purposely distracted,
From the message's meaning,
By listening without objecting...
Are we giving a silent seal of approval,
Of his dismal,
Of all?

"Our Changing Planet...
Is extremely difficult,
Straying from strategy,
Into speculative musings"

I suppose some find this amusing,
Whereas, I find it amazing.
I'm soooo perplexed,
What will the dummy say next?

"No! No! No Kyoto!"

But, isn't it already being felt,
As the glaciers in the Arctic melt?
Yo, dummy,
Can't you see:

"While there will always be some uncertainty,
Inertia in the climate system...."
Will determine who I am.
Is your head made of wood?
Or else you would,
Let the message be sent --
"Action on climate change is urgent,
That impacts are already being felt,
And, that the science is strong."
Come on!  They all can't be wrong!?!?!?!

The dummy "refuses still to acknowledge" this knowledge,
And, instead makes a pledge,
Of irresponsibility.
(That's even easy for this dummy to see.)

I can not rest easy,
No sir-eeeee,
There will not be satisfaction,
Until he slips,
And, I can read his lips --
There is a "need for action"!
