Strawberry Salute

Throughout the course of the many years that we have been in business, our company has sent many baskets to those we've heard about in our community who have done some good deed or act of unselfish kindness for others.

This has always been our mission ...and will continue to be.

Our Berry Special Someone Strawberry Salute Award allows us to publicly recognize and thank these deserving people who have dedicated themselves to others.  It is in this spirit that we present our award winners.

We are choosing to honor the extraordinary works of the American Heart Association. Sometimes we tend to forget about the most important work that major fund raising/research organizations do. We are grateful each day for the research being done to stop the #1 killer of adults in this country, heart disease. It can be a silent disease, giving no warning at all. We salute all the people involved with this most worthy organization.

Congratulations to Lisa Frost & Eric Vasiliades, recent newlyweds and winners of the San Diego "Strawberry Salute"! When a support group for local homeless kids had to move its beach barbeque last fall because the event accidentally interrupted a wedding, group leader Lisa Frost heard a comment from one of the wedding party members she couldn’t forget. “Well if you were getting married, you wouldn’t want a bunch of homeless people standing around,” Frost recalls. Several months later, Frost and her fiancé who have volunteered for two years with the homeless teen support group StandUp for Kids, decided to prove that lady wrong. The couple who are in their 40’s and have lived together for almost 17 years wed on July 17th, 2003, before a crowd of homeless teenagers and volunteers on the same Oceanside beach that they were booted from last Thanksgiving. Homeless children the group serves were in attendance and instead of wedding gifts, the couple requested donations of money and food for StandUp for Kids, which hands out food, clothing and personal supplies to teenagers who are homeless.

Our salute goes to the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation., founded by Robin Cohen and Adriana D'Alessandro, sister of the namesake of the organization who at 33, died of ovarian cancer. One of the goals of the group is to make women, family practitioners and gynecologists more aware of the signs of the disease so it can be treated earlier. The group has become a place where patients, survivors, family & friends can come together. For more information call 877-730-1100 or visit www.sandyovarian.org
